Silence, a quiet fear that the sound of my voice doesn't matter. We experience trauma in so many ways. When our words are ignored, unheard again and again, over time we may grow to believe that silence is our truest friend. It's not. There is a time to be silent and a time to speak.
Self-advocacy: Each individual is their own best ally. No one knows how you feel, who you are, and what you want, better than you. Sharing yourself, your burdens and triumphs, can lighten a heavy load or add abundance to joy. So communicate! Say something, write it down, converse. Use your mouth, a pen, or that look in your eyes. Just share your message and come to love the difference between frightened silence and enlivened listening.
